Update 12/11/2009

In October 2009 I was finally able to travel to Nkonaekoli Tanzania again to deliver more supplies.  With the $1600 collected, Nkoanekoli was able to receive more books, supplies and some beans and maize for food.  I decided to concentrate on spending most of the textbook money on form 6th and 7th students, since they were the ones preparing to go onto Secondary School and notebooks for the all the other students.  The teachers were also given supplies and some footballs were given to the students to play with which they surely appreciated.  During the trip I also witnessed a cool trend.  A graph showing how many students had gone off to secondary school after graduating from Nkoanekoli.  It seemed that since the last few years the numbers had dramatically increased. The head master and teachers assured me it was all the attention and help the school was receiving.

And here are some of the wonderful graduates who now attend Nshupu Secondary School.  I had the chance to also visit these students (the ones I remembered so vividly from my trip in 2007).  It was a very nice feeling to know that they had made it to secondary school, since many children cannot afford to go on past primary school.  More pictures and blogging to follow.  Thank you to all that have helped and continue to help.  It is a small gesture for a school that often gets forgotten about - since traveling to the school is often rocky, bumpy, muddy and long.  But that small gesture is encouraging some wonderful children.  More blogging and photos to follow.

First Delivery 05/13/2008

Great news, the children received their first delivery of books, supplies and food!  With the $1000 that was sent over to Tanzania, the children now have more up to date books. Even though they still have to share the books at least they are receiving the curriculum the rest of the public schools have been.  They also have enough food to last them 3 weeks for school lunches.  Small steps, but very important ones too.  The teachers and children are very grateful for all your genorisity, as am I.  I'll be sending an email update soon and posting a few pictures of the delivery.  If you want a more in depth update, please join the email list by going to the contact page or emailing saharafrica@gmail.com.

Hello all!  This is just an update to say that the total is above $1500 now and steadily rising.  I have a goal of raising $12,000.  There are 573 students at Nkoanekoli.  The costs of textbooks (for each subject), notebooks, pens, lunch, etc will be around $18 dollars per child.  I am also aiming to provide the children with some sort of English Language Learning Program.  I'm hoping $2000 of the goal will supply that.  But right now, these children are in need of a basic education and a healthy lunch!
